Italy faces widespread labor unrest amid mass layoffs

Italy is experiencing widespread industrial unrest as various companies face labor disputes and mass layoffs. In Genoa, Ericsson workers are protesting the planned dismissal of 131 employees, seeking institutional intervention to halt the procedure.

In the telecommunications sector, CallMat in Matera faces a crisis where approximately 350 workers risk losing their jobs following a decision by TIM not to extend call volumes. Similarly, Zenita workers have announced strikes to protest planned transfers of 137 employees, which unions describe as “masked dismissals.”

Other notable disputes include: - AEP Ticketing Solution in Signa, where workers are striking against immediate dismissals. - Barilla, where unions have declared a state of agitation regarding the potential sale of the Marcianise plant. - Rsa Le Civette in Florence, facing collective dismissals of 26 staff members due to changes in management contracts. - CIMS, a cooperative facing financial distress and requests for continuity procedures.

In the manufacturing sector, STMicroelectronics is negotiating a €5 billion framework agreement involving significant investments in its Italian sites, though unions remain cautious regarding concrete employment guarantees. Meanwhile, local government employees in Bernareggio and Messina are also engaged in strikes over working conditions and unpaid wages.
