UIL union denounces delays in border worker bonuses in Lombardy
The UIL trade union has issued an alarm regarding the failure to distribute the ‘border bonus’ established by Law 83 of 2023. Despite the state collecting an estimated 25 million euros in taxes from new cross-border workers in Lombardy in 2024 alone, workers have yet to receive any payments.
Union representatives, including Antonio Massafra and Fabrizio Tresoldi, emphasized that the bonus is intended for local workers in sectors such as hospitality, manufacturing, and agriculture who remain in Italian border towns. These employees face significant wage disparities compared to those working in Switzerland.
UIL Lombardy Secretary General Antonio Albrizio described the situation as ‘politically unacceptable,’ noting that while the state generates substantial revenue from these workers, the funds have not reached the employees. The union is calling for the Lombardy Region to move beyond bureaucratic delays and establish a political steering committee to resolve the issue.
