UILM labor union addresses industrial disputes and growth in Italy
The UILM labor union held territorial council meetings in Brindisi and Taranto to address regional industrial challenges and organizational growth.
In Brindisi, the UILM reported significant expansion, including a 59% increase in members and a 32% rise in unionized companies. The council introduced projects such as ‘Generazione Lavoro’ and discussed concerns regarding the metalworking and aeronautics supply chains.
In Taranto, Luigi Bennardi was named the new General Secretary of UILM Taranto. The council focused on the critical industrial uncertainty surrounding the former Ilva steelworks and its impact on the local economy. The union highlighted its role in negotiating the suspension of layoffs for supply chain workers and securing government measures, such as the ‘cassa in deroga’ and 70% redundancy funds. UILM is currently advocating for a Special Law for Taranto workers to support the region through its industrial transition.
