UIN Sunan Kalijaga hosts archival exhibition on PTAIN history

UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta is hosting an archival exhibition titled ‘RINTISAN: Jejak yang Tak Terhapus, Lintas Waktu 1951–1961: Membaca Ulang Akar Identitas’. Running from September 21 to September 26, 2026, the event showcases historical artifacts including black-and-white photographs, newspaper clippings, religious documents, and old books.

The exhibition traces the origins of the State Islamic College (PTAIN), which began operating in 1951 following a charter signed by Minister of Religious Affairs K.H. Wahid Hasyim. The collection highlights the institution's evolution from the Sekolah Tinggi Islam (STI) and Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) into its current form.

University Rector Professor Noorhaidi Hasan noted that the archives honor the contributions of founding figures K.H.R. Muhammad Adnan and Muchtar Jahja. He emphasized that understanding this history provides a necessary foundation for the institution to maintain its orientation amidst modern changes.
