UIN Sunan Kalijaga to host OASE III PTKIN research olympiad

The third Olympiad of Religion, Science, and Research (OASE III) for State Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKIN) is scheduled to take place from November 3 to 7, 2026, at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. The event will bring together 497 finalists from 54 PTKIN institutions.

Director of Islamic Religious Higher Education, Sahiron, emphasized that the competition aims to move beyond mere recognition through medals. He stated that universities must identify which research works are worthy of further development, what testing is required, and what support is needed to ensure research provides tangible benefits to society. Key research areas include nanotechnology and health, halal product technology and food security, waste and environmental management, and energy conservation.

Noorhaidi Hasan, Rector of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, noted that winning research is not automatically ready for public use. He highlighted that many studies still require data strengthening, repeated testing, or prototype refinement, particularly in the health and food sectors where safety and validation are critical. An innovation expo involving 34 PTKIN is also scheduled for November 4 to facilitate collaboration between students and faculty.
