UIN Walisongo KKN Students Carry Out Community Projects in Central Java

Students of the Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) program from UIN Walisongo Semarang conducted two community service projects in Central Java. In Gemuhblanten, Kendal Regency, they used a theodolite to verify the Qibla direction of Masjid Al‑Huda, confirming that the mosque’s current orientation matches the scientifically measured direction. Local mosque caretaker Maryono noted that this was the first precise measurement since the mosque’s construction, previously relying on a traditional pole.

The same student group also participated in the Demak Regency tourism festival, assisting the Jerukgulung village stall to showcase local culture and promote micro, small and medium‑enterprise (UMKM) products. Festival organizer Sasa stated the aim was “to ensure the community’s UMKM are well‑supported,” while student Fawas highlighted the value of the experience for developing communication and leadership skills.

Both activities were intended to strengthen local religious practice, tourism, and economic opportunities through direct student involvement and collaboration with village authorities.
