UINSA Surabaya accelerates rector election process

Leadership at Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Ampel (UINSA) in Surabaya is accelerating the rector election process following a coordination meeting between university officials and the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs. The decision aims to provide legal certainty and address internal campus dynamics.

Ministry of Religious Affairs Inspector General Khairunnas emphasized that while the schedule for registration, document verification, and Senate assessment will be compressed, the process must strictly adhere to Minister of Religious Affairs Regulation (PMA) Number 68. This compliance is intended to ensure transparency and prevent future legal disputes or lawsuits against the institution.

To expedite the timeline, the committee will shorten the intervals between registration and the submission of recommendations to Jakarta. Additionally, candidates may reuse active supporting documents, such as valid police records or health certificates, to streamline the verification phase. University officials noted that following these regulations is essential to ending speculation within the campus community and ensuring academic activities, such as student practicals and thesis work, remain undisturbed.
