UIO BiH issues first VAT refunds for first-time home buyers
The Indirect Taxation Administration (UIO) of Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued the first VAT refunds to citizens purchasing their first real estate. On September 18, 2026, three individuals received a total of 53,053.02 KM into their accounts.
The recipients were notified through UIO regional centers in Banja Luka and Tuzla. Since the program's inception on July 8, the UIO has received 1,453 applications.
The speed of disbursement depends on how citizens receive their official decisions. Those who collect their decisions in person at regional centers can expect funds to be deposited the following day. For those receiving decisions via mail, payments are processed once the UIO receives the legal proof of delivery via a return receipt.
