Uiraúna municipal accounts rejected by TCE-PB over education spending

The Paraíba State Court of Accounts (TCE-PB) rejected the 2024 financial accounts for the municipality of Uiraúna. The primary reason for the rejection was the failure to meet the constitutional minimum of 25% for education spending, with the municipality recording only 23.47%.

During the session, rapporteur Taciano Barbosa Diniz highlighted several other irregularities in the administration of Mayor Maria Sulene Dantas Sarmento. These included approximately R$ 2.2 million spent on festivities while priority areas were neglected, failure to comply with the national minimum wage for teachers, and low educational indices according to Ideb.

In the same session, the court approved the 2024 accounts for the municipalities of São Domingos do Cariri, Boqueirão, Igaracy, and Tacimã. Additionally, the court modified a previous decision regarding the 2023 accounts of Cruz do Espírito Santo following an appeal by its mayor.
