UISEK hosts seminar to strengthen occupational health in Ibero-America

The Universidad Internacional SEK (UISEK) recently hosted the International Seminar ‘Information systems for safety and health at work in Ibero-America’ to address challenges in occupational health. The event focused on using scientific evidence and information systems to strengthen public policies and protect workers.

In Ecuador, the Instituto Ecuatoriano de Seguridad Social (IESS) reported over 20,500 workplace accidents in 2025. However, experts warn that actual figures may be higher due to underreporting, particularly among informal workers and small businesses. Current data shows significant gaps in preventive measures, with only 6.1% of the workforce reporting periodic occupational medical exams and 14.4% receiving risk prevention training.
