Uiseong County holds dementia‑awareness song contest

Uiseong County in North Gyeongsang Province held a "2026 Dementia‑Overcoming On‑site Song Contest" on the 28th at the county health‑center conference room. About 120 participants attended, including residents of the local dementia‑support village, users of a community dementia‑care shelter, seniors from a nearby welfare center and the town’s senior‑citizen club.

The event was organized to build empathy and spread correct information about dementia ahead of Dementia‑Overcoming Day on September 21. Contestants performed songs while dementia‑awareness materials were displayed, emphasizing the importance of a dementia‑friendly community. Corn harvested by residents of the Cheolpari dementia‑support village was given as prizes and shared with attendees.

County mayor Choi Yu‑cheol said dementia is a challenge that the whole community must understand and address, and pledged continued projects to create a safe environment for patients and their families. The county plans further awareness activities, including a campaign at the traditional market during the upcoming Dementia‑Overcoming Day week.
