Uiseong County launches mental‑health and disinfection measures after heavy rain

Uiseong County in South Korea deployed a mobile “Mind‑Assurance Bus” in partnership with the Yeongnam Trauma Center of National Burim Hospital to provide disaster‑psychology support to residents of the flood‑hit Gu‑gye area. Between July 23‑24, teams conducted mental‑health assessments, stress testing, individual counselling, stabilization programs and EMDR therapy, while also identifying high‑risk individuals for ongoing case‑management and regular monitoring. Residents needing further psychiatric care were directed to a visiting mental‑health clinic at Kyungpook National University Hospital starting July 28.

In parallel, the county carried out a special disinfection operation in the same Gu‑gye villages, employing eco‑fog sprayers, handheld misting devices and drones to treat homes, communal facilities, flood‑affected roads, livestock pens and hard‑to‑reach terrain. Nine specialist staff applied layered sanitation to curb mosquito breeding and reduce the risk of water‑borne or food‑borne infections following the flooding. County mayor Choi Yu‑cheol emphasized the importance of early intervention to protect public health and help the community return to normal life.
