UiTM advised to establish Quantum Department to boost technology expertise
Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) has been advised to establish a Quantum Department, potentially by 2027, to strengthen Malaysia's expertise in emerging technologies. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stated that the department is intended to place the nation at the forefront of technological advancement alongside developed countries.
While acknowledging the successful implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Zahid emphasized that Malaysia must also focus on quantum technology to avoid falling behind. He expressed hope that the department could eventually expand into a full faculty.
A starting allocation of RM500,000 has been provided as initial capital to facilitate the immediate steps toward establishing the department. The distribution of these funds will be managed by the UiTM Board of Directors Chairman, Tan Sri Mohd Khamil Jamil.
