UJIT conducts journalism training in Togo to combat disinformation

The Union des Journalistes Indépendants du Togo (UJIT) organized a training session in Lomé from August 27 to September 2, 2026, focused on combating disinformation. The workshop aimed to equip approximately twenty journalists with fact-checking techniques and digital tools to address democratic and ethical challenges.

UJIT Secretary General Eli Goka-Adokanu noted that the training addresses a critical need, highlighting that journalists can face legal consequences if information is not properly verified. Trainer Emmanuel Vitus Agbenowossi emphasized the increasing difficulty of detecting manipulated content due to the rise of generative artificial intelligence, which has disrupted traditional journalistic standards.
