Ujjain food safety officials inspect Makhan Bhog restaurant
The Food Safety Department conducted a surprise inspection of the Makhan Bhog restaurant, located in Hotel Solitaire, in Ujjain on Monday. During the inspection, officials identified several irregularities regarding hygiene and food quality.
Key findings included the use of vegetable fat spread instead of butter on rotis and chapatis, as well as a food waste chamber located directly beneath a storage room containing potatoes, onions, and other vegetables, which caused a foul odor. Additionally, officials suspected the quality of oil used for deep frying and found that the restaurant operator could not provide satisfactory information regarding lentils and rice stored in deep freezers. Consequently, the suspected old food items were destroyed on-site.
Food safety officer Basant Sharma stated that samples of oil, butter, and paneer have been sent to a laboratory for testing. The department is initiating proceedings to suspend the restaurant's food license. Authorities noted that inspections of hotels, restaurants, and sweet shops will continue through the Diwali period to ensure compliance with food safety regulations.
