Ujjain: Four workers die in hotel waste chamber accident

Four people died after inhaling toxic gases while cleaning a waste chamber at Hotel Shri Ganga on Dewas Road in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. The incident occurred on a Saturday night around 10:30 PM.

According to local officials, the chamber is used for disposing of food waste, including dairy and confectionery products. The accident began when workers entered the tank and lost consciousness due to gas leaks and slippery conditions. In an attempt to rescue them, additional workers entered the chamber and also succumbed to the fumes.

Police and administrative teams, including District Collector Roshan Kumar Singh and Superintendent of Police Pradeep Sharma, arrived at the scene. Rescuers faced difficulties opening the chamber gate, requiring a cutter machine from a nearby construction site to gain access. After a 90-minute operation, the four deceased individuals were recovered. Two others who attempted rescues were hospitalized after falling ill, and one sub-inspector was injured during the operation. Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
