Ujjain Mahakaleshwar Temple Holds Grand Bhasma Aarti

On June 28, the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, conducted a large‑scale Bhasma Aarti on the occasion of Jyestha Shukla Paksha Chaturdashi. Thousands of devotees queued from the night before to witness the ritual, which began with the ceremonial opening of Baba Mahakal’s doors accompanied by drums and cymbals.

The ceremony featured a Panchamrit abhishekam using milk, curd, ghee, sugar and fruit juice, the offering of Hari Om water, and the adornment of the deity with bhang, a moon‑shaped ornament on the head, a trident and the symbol “Om.” The temple complex rang with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal,” bells, conches and mantras. Police deployed in large numbers to maintain order around the crowded precincts.
