Ujjain Mahakaleshwar Temple hosts elaborate Baba Mahakal aarti attracting devotees

The Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain held a special aarti for Baba Mahakal during the Jyestha Adhikamasa lunar month. On the auspicious days of the full moon and triyodashi, the temple’s kapat (door) was opened at Brahma Muhurta, followed by an elaborate abhishek with water, Panchamrit (milk, curd, ghee, honey, sugar) and other offerings such as bhang and sandalwood. Baba Mahakal was adorned in a royal guise, with a crown, moon ornament, and three‑line tilak, and his body was covered with flowers, herbs, and jewels.

Large numbers of devotees from across India and abroad gathered in long queues, chanting “Jai Shri Mahakal”, “Har‑Har Mahadev”, and “Jai Mahakal”. The shrine resonated with drums, conches, bells and continuous chanting throughout the ceremony, creating a highly devotional atmosphere.
