Ujjain schools to close every Monday in August, hold compensatory Sunday classes
From 3 August to 31 August 2026, all government and private schools in Ujjain, India, will be closed each Monday. To make up for the lost instructional time, regular classes will be conducted on the corresponding Sundays.
The district administration issued the order after assessing the expected heavy crowds and traffic congestion caused by the Mahakal procession (Mahakal Sawari) that takes place during the sacred month of Shravana. The decision applies city‑wide and aims to ensure safety while maintaining the academic calendar.
The change replaces the usual weekly schedule, where schools are normally closed on Sundays, and reflects the authorities’ effort to balance religious festivities with educational continuity.
