Ujjain: Stampede-like chaos at Nagchandreshwar Temple leaves devotees injured

A stampede-like situation occurred at the Nagchandreshwar Temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, during the Nag Panchami festival and the third Monday of Sawan. The chaos erupted near the Harsiddhi Temple barricading area following rumors of an electric current leak, causing panic among the massive crowds gathered for darshan.

Reports indicate that approximately 13 devotees were injured during the commotion, with several people fainting or being knocked down by the crowd pressure. The injured were transported to the district hospital for medical treatment. Security personnel and local administration intervened to control the crowd and restore order.

Following the incident, preacher Dhirendra Shastri criticized the existing VIP entry systems at religious sites, advocating for equal access for all devotees and improved crowd management to ensure safety. Local authorities have initiated a review of security arrangements to prevent similar occurrences during future high-traffic religious events.
