Ujjain's Mahakaleshwar Temple Ash Aarti Draws Massive Crowds

On June 10‑11, the Baba Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, India, performed the traditional ash (bhassm) Aarti as part of the annual Puropottam month observance. The ceremony featured a ceremonial opening of the deity's doors at 4 a.m., followed by chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal,” ringing bells, conch sounds and mantra recitations. Devotees offered milk, curd, ghee, honey, sugar and fruit‑based Panchamrit for the deity’s ablution, after which the idol was adorned with royal ornaments, including a trishul and tripund, and a grand floral decoration.

A large crowd gathered, with many pilgrims arriving early in the night. Central Minister Ram Nath Thakur attended the Aarti and praised the experience. The event attracted worshippers from across India and abroad, reflecting the temple’s nationwide spiritual significance.
