Ujjain's Mahakaleshwar Temple Holds Bhang-Decorated Baba Mahakal Ritual on Bhomavti Amavasya

On Tuesday, July 14, the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, India, performed the traditional ash arati of Baba Mahakal to mark Bhomavti (Ashadh) Amavasya. The deity was adorned with bhang and the ceremony began with drums and the opening of the deity's doors. Devotees were offered a ritual bathing with Panchamrit made from milk, yogurt, ghee, sugar and fruit juice, followed by the ash arati that presented the deity in a divine form.

A large crowd gathered, with many devotees lining up overnight to witness the event. Traditional attire—dhoti‑sola for men and saree for women—was required. Police deployed in significant numbers to maintain order around the temple premises. The ceremony, renowned across India and abroad, attracted visitors from various regions and notable personalities.
