UK and India-Canada Trade Deals Expand Market Access and Supply‑Chain Resilience

The United Kingdom announced a series of new trade agreements that broaden market access across the Asia‑Pacific, Gulf, North America and Europe, cut tariffs and aim to strengthen supply‑chain resilience. A key milestone was Mexico’s ratification of the UK’s accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans‑Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), paving the way for British exporters to benefit from lower export costs and simplified regulatory cooperation.

In New Delhi, India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and Canada’s Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development Maninder Sidhu co‑chaired the seventh India‑Canada Ministerial Dialogue on Trade and Investment. The talks focused on critical minerals, clean energy, agriculture, artificial intelligence, aerospace and health, reaffirming a commitment to enhance market access, regulatory alignment and economic resilience. Bilateral trade in goods and services reached US$18.38 billion in 2023, and both sides pledged to facilitate investment and strengthen supply‑chain security.

These developments signal a broader push by both the UK and the India‑Canada partnership to diversify trading relationships beyond traditional partners and to embed greater regulatory cooperation in key growth sectors.
