UK and Kuwait strengthen defence ties through diplomacy and £370m air defence deal

The United Kingdom and Kuwait are deepening their defence and security partnership through high-level diplomatic engagement and a significant new procurement deal. Vice Admiral Edward Ahlgren, the UK’s Defence Senior Adviser to the Middle East and North Africa, conducted his third visit to Kuwait this year to meet with senior military and government officials, including Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. Discussions focused on regional security, enhancing capabilities, and strengthening bilateral government-to-government relationships.

Complementing these diplomatic efforts, Kuwait has entered a £370 million contract with UK-based MARSS Systems Limited, an EOS company, to acquire advanced AI-enabled air defence systems. The deal involves the NiDAR platform, which integrates jammers, radars, and interceptors to detect and defeat airborne threats. This procurement, part of the UK’s Taskforce Sabre initiative, is expected to create 100 new skilled engineering and manufacturing jobs in the UK, with production centered in Bristol.
