UK and Nigeria strengthen security and migration cooperation

The United Kingdom and Nigeria have entered into new agreements to enhance bilateral cooperation across security, migration, trade, and investment. Following the annual UK-Nigeria Migration, Justice and Home Affairs Dialogue in London, both nations committed to intensified efforts against organized immigration crime, cyber-enabled fraud, and drug trafficking.

The new measures focus on tackling visa fraud, strengthening extradition processes, and improving criminal asset recovery. Both governments also pledged to enhance document verification and border management to protect immigration systems while supporting legitimate travel. Additionally, the agreement includes provisions for the safe and dignified return and reintegration of migrants.

On the economic front, the two countries are working to develop Nigerian visa pathways for businesses to encourage investment. Discussions also highlighted opportunities for expanded cooperation in sectors such as solid minerals, agriculture, renewable energy, and transport, with an emphasis on technology transfer and job creation.
