UK and US launch funding initiatives to combat veteran homelessness

The United Kingdom and the United States have announced significant funding initiatives aimed at reducing homelessness among military veterans.

In the UK, the Office for Veterans' Affairs (OVA) has made up to £8 million available through the Reducing Veteran Homelessness Programme. Managed by the Armed Covenant Fund Trust, the funding allows charities and housing organizations to bid for grants of up to £1.5 million. The initiative aims to provide specialist care and wraparound support, with the goal of establishing more than 900 housing places across the country.

In the US, the Department of Veterans Affairs is establishing a $29 million assistance fund through fiscal year 2027. Authorized by the Senator Elizabeth Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvement Act, the fund will allocate up to $11 million for goods and services—such as food, clothing, and communication technology—and up to $18 million for transportation assistance. This includes providing rides for medical appointments, counseling, and activities related to searching for housing or employment.
