UK announces 2026/27 Chevening and Commonwealth Scholars for Uganda and Jamaica

The British High Commission has hosted send-off ceremonies for the 2026/27 cohort of Chevening and Commonwealth Scholars in Uganda and Jamaica. These programs, funded by the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, support international students in pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees at UK universities.

In Uganda, 6 scholars were awarded Chevening Scholarships and 30 received Commonwealth Scholarships. These recipients will study various fields, including public health, climate change, economics, and technology. The Deputy British High Commissioner, Tiffany Kirlew, described the scholarships as investments in leadership and international connections.

In Jamaica, the number of Chevening awards for the 2026 academic year has decreased significantly compared to previous years. While the five-year average was approximately 15 awards per year, only three Jamaicans—Akeem Campbell, Shaqkeera Douglas, and Melisha Gordon—received the scholarship for this cycle. The recipients will study finance, technology law, and entrepreneurship at various UK institutions.
