UK announces public inquiry into Manchester synagogue deaths

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has announced a public inquiry into the deaths of Melvin Cravitz and Adrian Daulby, who were killed during a jihadist attack on the Heaton Park Synagogue in Manchester. The attack occurred on October 2, 2025, during Yom Kippur, and was carried out by a Syrian-born British citizen.

Mahmood stated that the inquiry was requested by the coroner to ensure all evidence can be heard, including sensitive national security material that might be restricted in a standard coroner’s court. The inquiry follows a recommendation from Chief Coroner Alexia Durran. The incident resulted in two fatalities and three serious injuries.
