UK approves major warehouse and retail redevelopment projects

Warrington Council granted planning permission for a £135 million redevelopment of the former Iceland distribution complex in Woolston. Panattoni and Mitsui Fudosan plan a 675,000 sq ft mixed‑use facility with 633,000 sq ft of warehouse space, a three‑storey office block, 76 dock doors and extensive vehicle parking.

Separately, Sefton Council received a proposal to repurpose the disused Mercedes‑Benz showroom in Birkdale. Bowman Riley, on behalf of AIM Capital Ltd, seeks to create a 433 sq m convenience store anchored by a national retailer, two smaller retail units and a 105 sq m fitness studio, aiming to boost local shopping options and employment.

Both projects illustrate a trend of converting vacant commercial sites in England into larger mixed‑use developments to serve community needs and stimulate economic activity.
