UK approves transmission assets for Morecambe offshore wind farm

The UK Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero has granted development consent for the transmission assets of the Morecambe and Morgan offshore wind farms. The approval for the Morecambe project marks a milestone intended to provide renewable energy to over half a million UK households.

Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) is leading the development and construction for the Morecambe project, which is owned by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). The decision follows years of development and engagement with local stakeholders.

In response to the decision, Fylde Council expressed deep disappointment, stating the approval is a blow to residents and community groups who opposed the cabling corridor to protect the local countryside. The Council has instructed counsel and is seeking legal advice to review the decision and explore available options.
