UK awards 68 Nigerian students Chevening and Commonwealth scholarships
The UK government has awarded Chevening and Commonwealth scholarships to 68 Nigerian students to pursue master’s and PhD programs in the United Kingdom for 2026. According to the British High Commission, 12 scholars received Chevening awards, while 56 were awarded Commonwealth scholarships.
Pre-departure ceremonies were held in Abuja and Lagos to recognize the recipients. Vicky Seymour, Chargée d’Affaires of the British High Commission in Abuja, stated that the scholarships represent an investment in both the individuals and the future development of Nigeria.
The Commonwealth Scholarship program, funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, provides full funding including tuition, airfare, and monthly stipends. It is open to students from low- and middle-income Commonwealth countries for academic periods beginning in September 2027.
