UK beauty sector supports high street regeneration
A new report titled ‘The Impact Of Beauty’ reveals that the beauty and personal care sector is playing a significant role in revitalizing UK high streets. According to analysis by Oxford Economics, commissioned by the British Beauty Council and supported by L’Oreal, there are more than 190,000 beauty and personal care sites across the United Kingdom.
In smaller local centers, the sector accounts for more than 35% of all leisure and recreation sites. Specifically, hair and beauty salons make up approximately one-fifth of leisure sites in smaller high streets, a share equal to that of pubs, bars, and cafes combined. While Greater London holds the highest total concentration with nearly 25,000 sites, regional areas like Lancashire, Devon, and North Yorkshire show a higher density of amenities per capita.
Millie Kendall, chief executive of the British Beauty Council, noted that beauty businesses should be viewed as part of the social and local infrastructure, contributing to community well-being and economic participation.
