UK Biobank Study Links Filter Coffee to Slower Biological Aging

Researchers analyzed data from 49,414 participants in the UK Biobank, with an average age of 56.4 years, to examine how different coffee preparation methods relate to biological aging. The analysis found that drinking filter coffee was associated with more favorable biological‑age metrics compared with non‑coffee drinkers.

Participants who consumed more than three cups of filter coffee daily had an estimated biological age about 1.1 years younger than non‑drinkers, while those drinking one to three cups were roughly nine months younger. Filter coffee consumers also showed longer telomere lengths, suggesting a slower cellular aging process. By contrast, instant‑coffee consumption was linked to opposite, less favorable aging indicators.

These findings suggest that the method of coffee preparation may influence age‑related biomarkers, though the authors note that not all measurements showed a clear effect.
