UK business leaders show varying trust in AI autonomy and security

New research highlights a significant divide in how artificial intelligence is adopted and trusted within UK workplaces. According to findings from Expleo, business leaders face an ‘AI autonomy cliff,’ where trust diminishes as AI moves from routine tasks to high-stakes decision-making. While 73% of leaders trust AI to summarize documents or emails, confidence drops to 43% regarding financial or budget-related approvals and 46% for strategic business decisions.

Complementary research from Adobe Acrobat reveals a disconnect between management and staff regarding data security. Approximately 75% of C-suite executives are willing to share sensitive documents with AI tools to improve efficiency, whereas only 20% of non-managerial employees feel comfortable doing so. This gap raises concerns for IT departments, as 22% of organizations adopting AI tools identify data security and privacy as primary challenges. Experts suggest that businesses must establish clear accountability and training to manage the risks associated with autonomous AI actions and sensitive data handling.
