UK butter sales rise despite increasing supermarket costs

Butter consumption and sales are rising in the UK, despite a 19 per cent increase in costs over the past year. Most standard blocks of butter now cost nearly £3, making it rare to find options under £2.

Market data indicates a growing popularity for various butter types. Waitrose reported a 16 per cent increase in sales for its Essentials salted butter compared to last year, while Worldpanel trend data shows that sales of flavoured butter in the UK have grown by 24 per cent over the last 12 months.

While margarine was previously preferred due to health concerns regarding saturated fats, butter is increasingly viewed as a staple that can be consumed in moderation as part of a balanced diet.
