UK Chancellor John Healey urged to end pension tax uncertainty and overhaul consumer credit
New Chancellor John Healey faces calls from the financial sector to restore certainty for savers after months of speculation that pension tax‑free cash and ISA rules could change. AJ Bell warned that the uncertainty has prompted billions of pounds to be withdrawn from retirement pots, urging the Budget to end the “circus” of tax speculation.
The Finance & Leasing Association also pressed Healey to modernise the Consumer Credit Act, arguing that outdated rules hinder business lending. The association highlighted that its members supplied £163 billion of finance in 2025 and £42 billion in the first quarter of 2026, and said a proportionate regulatory regime would boost investment, productivity and jobs across the UK.
