Al-Khair Foundation under investigation for alleged Hamas links

The UK Charity Commission has launched a statutory inquiry into the Al-Khair Foundation following allegations of links to Hamas. The investigation aims to determine the extent of the charity's connection to the group and whether its trustees exercised proper due diligence regarding partners and fund usage.

Simultaneously, the Metropolitan Police's counter terrorism unit is investigating potential terrorism funding, having conducted raids on properties in Croydon. These actions follow the arrest of Mohammad Yousef Hasna by the National Crime Agency. Hasna, who is currently awaiting an extradition hearing, faces charges in the United States for conspiring to provide material support and financing to Hamas.

US prosecutors and the FBI allege that Hasna used his position at the foundation to channel funds and supplies to Hamas leaders. Legal filings from the US have referred to the Al-Khair Foundation as a "Sham Charity." The foundation, which reported an income of over £74 million for the financial year ending July 31, 2025, has denied the allegations. The charity stated it is cooperating fully with authorities and maintains that Hasna is not an employee of the organization.
