UK communities hold tributes for 9/11 anniversary

Various tributes are being held to mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. In Hayle, Cornwall, The Veterans Charity has organized a community project to create 2,977 poppies made from approximately 6,000 scallop shells. Each poppy represents one victim of the attacks. The display specifically honors Rick Rescorla, a Hayle native and former security head for Morgan Stanley who helped evacuate people from the South Tower, as well as law enforcement officers and a Port Authority Police Department dog.

In the United States, a team of eight firefighters from the Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service participated in a memorial stair climb in Atlanta, Georgia. The team climbed 110 floors at the Atlanta Braves Stadium, simulating the height of the former World Trade Center towers, to honor the 343 New York City Fire Department firefighters who died during the attacks. The event, which included over 1,200 participants globally, helped raise funds for various firefighter charities.
