UK construction and legal sectors launch mental health initiatives
Major organizations in the construction and legal sectors in the United Kingdom are launching new initiatives to address mental health and workplace wellbeing.
In the construction industry, firms including Balfour Beatty, VolkerStevin, Graham Group, and Sisk have signed the Mindflow Mental Health Charter. Relaunched on World Mental Health Day by former footballer Trevor Steven, the charter outlines 10 principles aimed at embedding mental health support into daily working practices, covering areas such as management responsibility and early intervention. To ensure effectiveness, the charity Mindflow has established a research partnership with the University of Warwick to evaluate the charter’s implementation.
Simultaneously, the legal sector is forming the Solicitor Wellbeing Alliance. This collaboration brings together The Law Society, LawCare, The Solicitors’ Charity, and the Mindful Business Charter. The alliance aims to improve awareness and access to support for practitioners, addressing findings from the Life in the Law 2025 report which indicated that half of respondents experienced anxiety in the previous year and 43.4% stated their mental health was significantly influenced by work.
