UK consumer demand shifts following weight-loss pill approval
New research indicates that consumer-facing businesses in the UK may face significant shifts in demand following the approval of Eli Lilly’s weight-loss pill. A survey commissioned by RSM UK found that 34% of Britons would consider using weight-loss tablets instead of injections, a preference that rises to 43% among millennials and 42% among Gen Z.
The study also noted that higher earners are more likely to opt for pill forms, with 58% of those earning over £80,000 expressing interest. Current users of GLP-1 weight-loss injections reported changes in lifestyle, including eating smaller portions, snacking less frequently, and consuming less alcohol.
Experts suggest this trend could lead to a redistribution of consumer spending. While some sectors may face pressure, others, such as the vitamins, supplements, and health and wellness markets, could see increased benefits.
