UK consumers increasingly turn to supermarket wine and Crémant alternatives
UK wine consumers are increasingly shifting toward supermarket purchases for celebrations, with Champagne remaining the leading choice at 33.4%, followed by Prosecco and English Sparkling wine. High prices are a significant point of frustration for 34% of consumers.
As an alternative to premium Champagne brands, experts recommend Crémant, which is produced using the ‘méthode traditionelle’ outside the Champagne region. Crémant, available from regions in France and Luxembourg, offers a fruitier and lighter profile while maintaining high quality at a lower price point. For example, Crémant de Loire produced from Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay blends is noted for its complexity and value.
