UK convenience stores reach £10bn National Lottery Good Causes milestone
Independent retailers across the United Kingdom have reached a milestone of raising more than £10 billion for Good Causes through the sale of National Lottery tickets and scratchcards. Since the lottery's launch in 1994, these corner shops have contributed to funding over 680,000 projects spanning arts, community, heritage, and sports.
Currently, more than 22,000 independent retailers sell National Lottery products. Within this network, 1,623 shops have raised over £500,000, 469 have exceeded £1 million, and 28 have surpassed the £2 million mark. Notably, two individual shops have each raised more than £3 million.
Allwyn UK, the lottery operator, has launched the ‘Local Retail Champions’ initiative to recognize these contributors. The campaign includes visits to top-performing retailers in Kent, Wales, and West Yorkshire by individuals who have benefited from lottery funding, such as Olympic boxer Nicola Adams.
