UK courts hand down lengthy prison terms for two rape convictions

Iain Platt, 51, of Bideford, was sentenced to eight years in prison at Exeter Crown Court on July 30 after being convicted of multiple rapes and threats to kill his victim in North Devon. The court heard that Platt repeatedly forced sexual contact without consent and threatened the victim's life.

Ryan Dinnage, 32, of Croydon, received an eight‑year‑six‑month sentence at Reading Crown Court on the same day for raping a woman inside her caravan following the Royal Windsor Horse Show. Police evidence placed Dinnage at the scene and contradicted his claim that the act was consensual. Both cases were highlighted by investigators for the seriousness of the offences and the support provided to the victims.
