UK Department for Work and Pensions lists 59 eye and ear conditions for PIP eligibility

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has published a comprehensive list of 59 eye and ear conditions that qualify claimants for Personal Independence Payment (PIP). PIP can provide up to £187 per week (£748 per month) across daily‑living and mobility components, and more than 10,000 people with visual or auditory impairments are currently receiving the benefit.

Separately, private‑sector discount schemes such as Purpl and the National Disability Card are offering PIP claimants discounts of up to 70% on a range of products, including sex toys, holidays, luxury watches and jewellery. Users pay a small subscription fee and must have a recognised disability. Purpl founder Georgina Colman defended the service as privately funded and aimed at reducing the extra cost of disability, while Reform UK chairman Lee Anderson criticised the schemes as an inappropriate use of benefit support.
