UK Dormant Assets Scheme holds £557m in unclaimed funds

More than £557 million has been transferred into the UK Treasury's Dormant Assets Scheme over a three-year period between 2022 and 2025. Research indicates that only 11 per cent of these funds, totaling £62.7 million, were reclaimed by their rightful owners during that time.

Accounts are classified as dormant after remaining untouched for 15 years without deposits or withdrawals. While these funds move into the scheme, Reclaim Fund Ltd is legally obligated to return the money to owners who come forward. On average, individuals who successfully track down lost accounts recover approximately £1,011.

In addition to dormant bank accounts, an estimated £97 million in Premium Bond prizes remains unclaimed as of March 2025, involving nearly 2.5 million individual prizes.
