UK drivers face £50 fines for roundabout rule violations

A study by Compare the Market indicates that nearly six million drivers in the United Kingdom risk a £50 fine for failing to adhere to roundabout regulations. The research highlights that one in six motorists finds navigating roundabouts to be a source of stress and confusion.

Data from the study shows that 55 per cent of motorists admit to breaking rules at smaller junctions. Specifically, 48 per cent of those surveyed admitted to driving over raised central markings, while 62 per cent confessed to driving over painted flat markings on the road surface.

Under Highway Code rules 188 to 190, drivers are required to pass around central markings on mini-roundabouts unless their vehicle is too large to do so. Police have the authority to issue a £50 fixed penalty notice to motorists who cross these markings without a valid reason.
