UK DWP Announces Automatic Winter Fuel Bonus for Eligible State Pensioners

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) confirmed that eligible state pensioners will receive an automatic Winter Fuel Payment of between £100 and £300 for the 2026/27 tax year. Pensioners born between 28 September 1946 and 27 June 1960 will get £200, while those born before 28 September 1946 will receive £300. An additional £100 boost applies to the older group if their annual income is below £35,000.

Payments will be made automatically to twelve benefit schemes, including the State Pension, Pension Credit, Universal Credit, Attendance Allowance, Personal Independence Payment, Carer’s Allowance, Disability Living Allowance and others. Recipients will receive letters in October or November detailing the amount, with most payments deposited in November or December. If the payment has not been received by 27 January 2027, claimants are instructed to contact the Winter Fuel Payment Centre. Income over the £35,000 threshold will be reclaimed through the tax system.
