UK energy bills projected to reach £2,000 per year in January
Energy prices in the United Kingdom are projected to rise significantly in January, with typical household bills expected to reach approximately £2,000 per year. Consultancy Cornwall Insight forecasts a 16% increase in the price cap from October levels.
To mitigate these costs, experts suggest switching to fixed-rate energy tariffs. Currently, 34 fixed-rate deals are available that sit below the anticipated January cap, with some offering annual savings of up to £324. Practical household adjustments can also reduce expenses, such as lowering thermostat temperatures by 1 degree Celsius to save roughly £120 annually or adjusting boiler flow temperatures.
In Scotland, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is advising residents to check for available financial assistance. This includes the Warm Home Discount scheme, which may provide £150 off electricity bills for eligible households. Additionally, individuals are encouraged to ensure they are receiving all entitled benefits and to register for Priority Services with energy suppliers to manage the impact of rising costs during the winter months.
