UK Energy Price Cap Increases 13% as Households Face Higher Bills

Ofgem announced that the UK energy price cap will rise by 13% from 1 July to 30 September, pushing the average annual gas and electricity bill from £1,641 to £1,862 – an extra £18 per month for households on standard variable tariffs. The increase reflects higher wholesale gas costs linked to global instability, including the ongoing Iran conflict.

Tenants and residents are being urged to check their current tariffs, claim any eligible benefits or grants, and adopt energy‑saving measures such as lowering thermostat settings, using timers, and switching to LED lighting. Citizens Advice and housing associations are offering debt‑help services, fuel vouchers, and guidance on negotiating payment plans with suppliers to mitigate the impact of rising energy expenses.
