UK environmental groups urge action on heat and wildfires
Environmental organizations and conservation charities in the United Kingdom are calling for urgent government action to address rising temperatures and increasing wildfire risks. The Strong Roots alliance, comprising the Woodland Trust, the Horticultural Trades Association, and the Royal Horticultural Society, has urged ministers to invest in green infrastructure and domestic tree production to cool overheating cities.
Simultaneously, the National Trust is petitioning the government to make climate resilience a national mission following devastating wildfires at Dunwich Heath, which destroyed 104 hectares of land. The charity emphasizes the need for better protection of wildlife and landscapes, alongside increased funding and specialized equipment for Fire and Rescue Services to manage more frequent and severe climate hazards.
